How We Build a Concrete Pool in Jacksonville Soil
Every Castle Pools pool is a gunite (shotcrete) shell: steel-reinforced concrete sprayed in place and finished to your spec. It is the construction method that holds up in Northeast Florida’s sandy soil, high water table, and summer heat, and it is the reason a pool we built in 2007 still looks like a pool we built in 2007.
Excavation, steel, and the shotcrete shell
After the Duval County permit is approved, we lay out and excavate the pool, tie the steel rebar cage, run the plumbing, and spray the shotcrete shell. Jacksonville’s water table sits close to the surface in many neighborhoods, so we plan dewatering and shell thickness for the site, not from a template. The shell cures for about a week before tile and coping go on.
Pool equipment: pumps, filters, heaters, lighting, and automation
The equipment package is part of every build, not an add-on: pump, filter, LED lighting, and, if you want them, a gas or heat-pump heater and automation you run from your phone. We size the equipment to the pool, install it ourselves, and walk you through it at handover. Spas, water features, and fire features are plumbed and wired during construction so nothing has to be retrofitted later.
Finishes, tile, coping, and decking
Interior finish (quartz or pebble aggregate for Florida’s UV and hard water), waterline tile, coping, and deck material (travertine, pavers, or concrete) are chosen with Kari during the selections process. In HOA communities we match required materials and equipment screening before the permit is pulled, so there is nothing to redo after inspection.

We create your custom pool design and submit for Duval County permits. Once approved, we finalize your contract with a detailed, transparent scope and price. No surprises. Permitting typically takes about four weeks; HOA architectural review, where required, runs in parallel.
3. Construction & Completion
We handle excavation, plumbing, electrical, shotcrete, tile, decking, and final inspection. Most Jacksonville pools are swim-ready within 90 days of breaking ground. You get the same crew and the same point of contact from the first dig to the day we hand you the equipment walkthrough.
